Submit site

This page describes how to create and make a sitemap available to Google. Learn more about sitemaps here.

Creating and submitting a sitemap

  1. Decide which pages on your site will be crawled by Google and determine the standard version of each page .
  2. Decide which sitemap format you want to use . You can manually create your sitemap manually, or  choose from a variety of third-party tools to create your sitemap for you.
  3. Make your Sitemap available to Google by adding it to your robots.txt file and submitting it to the Search Console .

Sitemap formats

Google supports the various sitemap formats described here. Google expects the standard sitemap protocol in all formats . Google does not currently <priority>use sitemaps .

The size of a single sitemap in all formats can be up to 50 MB (uncompressed) and can contain up to 50,000 URLs. If you have a larger file or more URLs, you’ll need to split your list into multiple sitemaps. Optionally, you can create a sitemap index  file (the file that points to a list of sitemaps) and send that single index file to Google. You can submit multiple sitemaps and / or sitemap index files to Google.

Sitemap extensions for additional media types

Google supports extended sitemap syntax for the following media types. Use these extensions to identify video files, images, and other difficult-to-parse content on your site to improve the indexing process.

  • Video
  • Picture
  • News

General sitemap guidelines

  • Use consistent, full URLs.  Google crawls your URLs as listed. For example, if your site is at, do not specify the URL  as ( wwwwithout) or ./mypage.html(as a relative URL).
  • Do not include session IDs for URLs in your sitemap. This will result in fewer repetitive crawling of those URLs.
  • Tell Google about alternative language versions of a URL using hreflang annotations .
  • The coding of the site map file in UTF-8 and properly URL escaped must be .
  • Divide large sitemaps and create smaller sitemaps, so you don’t overload the server when Google requests your sitemap frequently. A sitemap cannot contain more than 50,000 URLs and cannot be larger than 50 MB in uncompressed form. List all of your sitemaps using a sitemap index file, and send it to Google instead of individual sitemaps.
  • Tell Google whether your site can be accessed through both the www and non-www versions of your domain, using the recommended standardization methods . You’ll only need to submit the sitemap for your preferred domain.
  • Use sitemap extensions to point to additional media types, such as videos, images, and news .
  • If you have different URLs for mobile and desktop versions of a page , we recommend pointing to only one version. However, if you think you need to mark both URLs, add annotations to specify the desktop and mobile versions of your URLs .
  • If you have alternate pages for different languages or regions , you can use the hreflang annotation in a sitemap or html tags to specify alternate URLs .
  • Non-alphanumeric characters not found in the Latin alphabet. Your Sitemap file needs to be encoded in UTF-8 (you can usually do this when saving the file). As with all XML files, all data values (including URLs) must use element escape codes for the characters listed in the following table. The sitemap can contain only ASCII characters; cannot contain uppercase ASCII characters or specific codes or special characters such as * and {}. If your Sitemap URL contains these characters, you’ll get an error when you try to add your sitemap.CharacterExit CodeAmpersand&& Amp;Single Quotation Mark’& Apos;Double Quotation Mark”& Quot;Greater Than Sign>& Gt;Less Than Sign<& Lt;In addition, all URLs (including the URL of your Sitemap) must be encoded for readability by the web server where they are located and must be URL-output. On the other hand, if you use any type of script, tool, or log file (anything other than handwriting URLs) to generate your URLs, this is often done for you. If you submit your sitemap and receive an error message that Google cannot find some of your URLs, make sure that your URLs follow RFC-3986 for URIs , RFC-3987 for IRIs, and XML.

    Here is a URL that uses a non-ASCII character ( ü) and a character ( &) that requires element output :
    http://www.example.com/ümlat.html&q=name
Wherein the same URL, is encoded as ISO-8859-1 format (to be hosted on a server that uses this encoding) and to see the URL outlet: wherein the same URL, UTF-8 coded format (to be hosted on a server that uses this encoding): This the same URL with the item output:

Make your sitemap available to Google (send your sitemap to Google)

There are several ways to make your Sitemap available to Google:

  • Submit to Google using the Search Console Sitemaps tool
  • robots.txt Specify the path to your sitemap by including the following line anywhere in your file:

How the Security of Shared Hosting Affects Your Website

How the Security of Shared Hosting Affects Your Website

The security of a shared server is generally the same for all web sites it hosts. The hosting provider must have a basic level of antivirus and spyware protection installed on the server. Then, you can increase this by having additional security installed on your web site. One of the risks on a shared server is that if a website is vulnerable and affected by the virus, it can easily spread to other websites on the server. You may have the highest level of protection on your website, but you may still be exposed to a level of risk due to the installation of a shared server.

Are some types of websites more sensitive than others?

There are some websites that are more attractive to hackers and crooks than others. E-commerce websites that receive customer information and payments are at particularly high risk. That’s why you see a security certificate on every reputable e-commerce website. These are measures that use encryption as a way to protect customer information after logging into the site. In reality, no one can accurately predict why someone is trying to infiltrate or infect your website. Often the people who create the virus randomly pick out the victims or encode the viruses to cause enough damage to be able to enter the internet.

Who cares about the security of your website?

The security of your website affects more than just your business. You need to consider your customers as a starting point. What will your website look like if it’s protected against viruses? You do not take security seriously and take measures to prevent it from happening. If you have an e-commerce website, your security is very important. Your website usually also represents the general face of your organization. If in danger, it may adversely affect your business image.

What are the Most Common Security Risks?

In the past, a virus was your biggest concern. If it is in your files, it may corrupt or destroy your data. Today, hackers are becoming increasingly creative. Now you need to be aware of Trojans, worms, malware and spyware. Malware and spyware are programs that connect themselves to your system and then monitor and record what you are doing. Risk is the disclosure of your personal information. Your banking and home address information can be forwarded to criminals targeting you. Criminals may use the information they collect in any way to advance their agenda. It can also affect the safety of friends, family or employees.

Which Security Should You Use?

To get started, you should choose a web hosting provider that is conscious about server security. You can do this quickly by asking a few basic questions about security on the server. How often are they updated? How often do they scan? How do they protect the server, so security remains tight? As a basic protocol, firewalls should be in place. You should also have on-site antivirus and antispyware software.

You can also provide a separate security center for your website that you regularly crawl and update. If you have an e-commerce website, your e-commerce software usually comes with encryption technology. You will have a commercial account that simplifies your shopping cart and ease of payment. Most merchant accounts have built-in security to ensure the integrity of the system. They use encryption methods among other transactions to securely store and transfer customer and transaction information. You must be able to obtain a security certificate from your vendor service provider. This tells your customers that your e-commerce website is a website that provides a high level of security.
